Aqua East and Beach Blvd Motorsports 2011 Wakeboard Tournament
Jacksonville’s 2011 Wakeboard Tournament brought to you by Aqua East and Beach Blvd Motorsports started on Friday night at Nippers Beach Grille. Nippers provided a VIP section with food and drinks so the competition riders, friends, family and sponsors could enjoy great music and tunes before the tournament. Events sponsors also invited riders for a meet and greet with Pro Wakeboarder Jeff Langley who sign autographs on his centerfold in the July issue of Alliance Wakeboard Magazine. Langley is locally recognized for teaching wakeboarding in the Jacksonville area before moving to Orlando in 2009 and signing with Obrien’s Wake Team.
Saturday morning started at 9AM with a three mile Stand Up Paddleboard Race(SUP) around Victory Lake, an exclusive members only ski club located on the west side of Jacksonville. Dave Slemp finished first in the men’s division and Trisha Atchison finished first in the women’s divisions.
The first wakeboarder of the day, Brandon Carter came in a close second to his brother, Andrew Carter who won first place in the Novice 8 years old and under division. Also winning first place in their age group in the Novice division was 9-year-old Devin Carter and 17-year-old Zack Sandler.
In the Intermediate division, 12-year-old Hunter Davis won first in his age group with a nice clean heelside grab. In the 13 and over division, brothers Michael and Matthew Pentaleri both had nice grabs and clean 180’s, but the 1st place plaque went to the older bother Michael Pentaleri. These talented brothers from the Bolles Wakeboard Team also competed in the Wakeskate division, in which, Michael took 1st place and a backpack full of hats and shirts from Billabong.
The Advance division was a close call with first place winner going to 31-year-old Dave Randle, followed by Dylan Prather and Zeb Bielling.
The big winner of the day was 18-year-old, Jamie Hanrick, with a solid run in the Outlaw division. Jamie started with a big whirly bird and tootsie roll; however, it was his style and execution that granted him 1st place and a $500 check for the best run of the day.
To wrap up an amazing day on the water, the sponsors provided another $500 cash prize to Andrew Curuso for the best trick on a Double-up contest.
